StormQuant Releases BAT-5: Next-Generation Solid-State X-Band Weather Radar
StormQuant has again improved its BAT-Series solid-state X-band Doppler weather radar with new upgrades incorporating the company’s latest hardware, digital processing, and software advancements to deliver greater performance, configurability, and operational capability in a compact radar system.
Engineered by StormQuant’s technical team at its Florida R&D laboratory, the upgrade builds on the existing patented BAT architecture while continuing to focus on rapid, localized weather intelligence for demanding operational environments.
The latest BAT-Series radar operates in the 9.3–9.5 GHz X-band with up to 2.4 kW peak output and observation capability beyond 150 kilometers. The system combines dual-polarization Doppler radar, configurable processing, onboard computing, and flexible scanning to provide high-resolution weather information where and when it is needed.

Software-Defined Radar at the Core
A key element of StormQuant’s BAT-Series architecture is its software-defined processing and configuration. Operators can adapt radar parameters and scanning strategies to support changing operational requirements without fundamentally changing the platform.
The system supports PPI, RHI, and sector scanning, along with onboard GPU processing. Radar configuration changes can be remotely transmitted to the system, allowing operators to adapt the radar to evolving weather conditions and mission requirements without being constrained by a fixed operating configuration. It can achieve configurable range resolution as fine as 100 meters and has demonstrated sensitivity of approximately 0 dBZ at 37 kilometers, while supporting observation ranges beyond 150 kilometers.
“StormQuant is continuing to evolve the BAT architecture to deliver more capability without simply making the system larger or more complex,” said Jacob Lawrence-Simon, Principal Engineer. “The latest BAT advancement brings together solid-state radar technology, software-defined processing, onboard computing, sensor fusion, and automated alerting to provide actionable weather intelligence where and when it matters.”
Deploying Weather Viewers At EOC’s Across Florida, Turning Data Into Better Decisions
Teaming with StormQuant, the State of Florida is leading the nation in deploying cutting-edge weather technology. The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) has adopted StormQuant’s proprietary radar and patented software platform, making this technology available to emergency operations centers across the state.
Many counties have already taken delivery of StormQuant’s 3D Weather Viewer workstations, which have been updated to run the company’s latest proprietary meshing software. Training and technical support are important components of the rollout. This week’s Weather Viewer installations included emergency operations centers in Okeechobee and Polk counties.
The Weather Viewer combines radar observations with data from other weather sources, including NEXRAD, TDWR, and other third-party weather sensors, to create a more complete picture of the local environment. It fuses these multiple sources, helping operators see conditions that may be outside the optimal coverage or perspective of any one sensor. The result is a more comprehensive and continuously updated view of developing weather, particularly in areas where localized conditions are changing quickly.

“Thank you for including Okeechobee,” said Karen Kozac, Emergency Management Director for Okeechobee County. “The team here is grateful for the resource.”

EOC users are often impressed with how StormQuant’s Weather Viewer incorporates user-defined automated weather alerting. This allows the system itself to identify and highlight conditions that may require attention, rather than requiring operators to continuously watch multiple displays and interpret raw weather data themselves.
A New Standard in Weather Intelligence
With its continued investment in technology upgrades, StormQuant is advancing toward its goal of becoming the weather platform of choice for emergency management and disaster recovery professionals, combining advanced capabilities, real-time data, and operational expertise to enable faster, more informed decision-making when it matters most.
