Last week, the Collier County Emergency Operations Center officially launched StormQuant’s state-of-the-art 3-D Weather Viewer workstation equipped with its patented proprietary software. This cutting-edge upgrade was made possible by Florida’s Division of Emergency Management (FDEM).

On site at the EOC for the system unveiling was StormQuant President Tristan Rizzi and Chief Meteorologist Howard Moore. The installation and training was coordinated by Dan Summers, Director for the Collier County Bureau of Emergency Services. Dan along with his team, Mike Shaw and John Neuman, Emergency Management Coordinators, Amy Howard, Multi-Hazard Planner, Daniel Fillmore, Mass Care Coordinator, and others ran both real-time and historic data through thru StormQuant’s system. Being able to process historical hurricane data will be particularly useful for team training.

StormQuant’s 3-D viewer allows for horizontal and vertical slicing of weather systems at any selected altitude along with first of a kind true directional wind velocity. The Collier County team had never seen anything like it.  “Having true wind velocity data is a game changer” said Mr. Summers.  “We were impressed with StormQuant’s ability to set viewports along with alerts within preconfigured grids.”  These unique features, coupled with the system’s ability to detect smoke brings great value, especially given the risk the County faces from fast-forming open land fires.

“StormQuant’s cutting-edge technology is a giant leap forward in how weather events are monitored and responded to” said Mr. Moore.  “The proprietary “Horus” software ingests StormQuant’s data as well as existing third-party weather data to provide advanced real-time actionable insights. This dramatically enhances preparedness and response times for weather-related emergencies.”

Dan Summers and his team expressed a desire to make the StormQuant system the focal point for real-time weather visualization. To help make that happen, we will be delivering a second high-speed work station so they can set it up on their large main screen in their EOC.  FDEM and Collier County’s strong support of this life saving and game changing technology will pay dividends for the people of Florida.
